THE MATRIX MODEL

DESCRIPTION:
The Matrix Model is a federally recognized model and a proven effective, evidence-based protocol that has been used in the treatment of addicts with over 20 years of research and development. It’s a 16 week comprehensive, intensive outpatient program (IOP) with a multi-format program that covers six key clinical areas: individual/conjoint therapy, early recovery, relapse prevention, family education, social support and urine testing. It's an integrated therapeutic model incorporating cognitive behavioral, motivational enhancement, couples and family therapy, individual supportive/expressive psychotherapy and psychoeducation, twelve-step facilitation, and group therapy and social support. The Model is more directive and behavior-focused than general therapy. The goal is stability versus comfort and focus is abstinence. A therapeutic team approach is utilized and the primary therapist frequently pursues less motivated clients. The focus is on behavior rather than feelings; the behavior is more important than the reason behind it. A family system support is encouraged. The therapist functions as a coach/advocate.

NEOROSCIENCE TREATMENT TEAM PARTNER PROGRAM (NTTP)

DESCRIPTION:
The NTTP program is a comprehensive psycho-educational program that encourages healthy lifestyles for people with serious mental illness. It has been progressively implemented across the nation and has been established as a best practice/evidenced based approach developed by nationally recognized leaders in the behavioral health field. The effectiveness of this program has been studied and validated in clinical trials and has repeatedly shown to improve outcomes, meet accreditation standards, improve and maintain a high level of consumer satisfaction and raise the standard of care for people who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness. When used in combination with pharmacological therapies, this model has been scientifically proven to increase consumer knowledge, improve compliance, reduce relapse, decrease denial and reduce negative attitudes and negative symptoms associated with severe and persistent mental health disorders. The Team Solutions modules are designed to help consumers and their families understand mental illness and its treatment. It is comprised of 10 workbooks: Understanding your Illness, Understanding your Symptoms, You and Your Treatment Team, Recovering from Mental Illness, Understanding your Treatment, Getting the Best Results from your Medicine, Helping Yourself to Prevent Relapse, Avoiding Crisis Situations, Coping with Symptoms & Side-Effects, and Managing Crisis and Emergency Situations. THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE SUBTLE SCREENING INVENTORY (SASSI)

DESCRIPTION:
The Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (The SASSI) is a brief and easily administered psychological screening measure that helps identify individuals who have a high probability of having a substance use disorder.
Interpretations of SASSI profiles also produce hypotheses that clinicians may find useful in understanding clients and planning their treatment. Since 1988, the SASSI has become a valued part of assessment packages in a variety of settings including criminal justice, employee assistance, educational, mental health, medical, and vocational. The Adult SASSI identifies substance dependence with an overall empirically tested accuracy of 93%. The Adolescent SASSI identifies
Substance Use Disorders both Substance Dependence and Substance Abuse with an overall empirically tested accuracy of 94%. Both the adult and adolescent versions of the SASSI are composed of face valid items as well as subtle items that do not address substance misuse in a direct or apparent manner. The intent is to be able to identify some substance dependent individuals who may be unable or unwilling to acknowledge relevant substance-related behavior. The one page, paper-pencil questionnaire requires about 15 minutes to complete and can be scored in approximately 5 minutes. In combination with other available assessment information, SASSI profiles facilitate ideas for providing effective feedback, further evaluation, and treatment considerations. Some clinical inferences suggested by examining SASSI profiles include: Indication of defensive responding, Level of insight and awareness of the effects of substance misuse, Evidence of emotional pain, and Relative risk of involvement with the legal/judicial system. The test can be administered to individuals aged 12 and up at a minimum of a 4th grade reading level.

UNDERSTANDING BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER AND ADDICTION

DESCRIPTION:
Written by clinicians, researchers, and individuals in recovery, the Co-occurring Disorders Series is the definitive resource on chemical addiction combined with mental or emotional illnesses. Formerly named the Dual Diagnosis Series, it has been revised to reflect the wide-ranging scope of co-occurring disorders, updated with new findings, redesigned for greater readability, and expanded with additional materials. Not too long ago, personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder were considered to be untreatable. The fact is, people can and do recover. This collection explores ways to cope with common behaviors and thoughts associated with borderline personality disorder. It provides support for recovery from the co-occurring disorders of borderline personality and addiction.

CONNER’S

DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the CPY II is to aid in the identification of attention problems and provide measurement of treatment effectiveness. The CPT II Version 5 for Windows asks respondents (ages 6 years and older) react to target letters on the screen, allowing the CPT II program to measure response time, errors, change in reaction time speed and consistency, signal detection theory statistics, and overall statistics. The unique Conners' paradigm, which is based on over 30 years of research on childhood and adolescent psychopathology and is widely used in clinical practice and ADHD research, is the basis for the program. The software contains large normative samples, including new ADHD clinical data and data on neurologically impaired adults. The CPT II produces a Conners' Multimodal Integrated Report that combines CPT II results with those obtained from the CRS-R V.5 software. You also can generate a Single Administration Report and a Multi-Administration Report, which is ideal for monitoring treatment efficacy because it compares the results of up to four administrations for the same client. The testing time is approximately 14 minutes.

PERSONALITY INVENTORY FOR CHILDREN. SECOND EDITION (PIC-2)

DESCRIPTION:
This highly regarded test is widely used by clinical and school psychologists to evaluate the emotional, behavioral, cognitive, and interpersonal adjustment of children and teens. The test is appropriate for evaluating 5- through 19-year-olds, the PIC-2 includes 275 True-False items. The full scale can be completed by a parent or parent surrogate in about 40 minutes. When you need a shorter administration, the PIC-2 offers a Behavioral Summary, which is comprised of the first 96 items on the test. Requiring just 15 minutes to administer, this version can be used for screening, research, or monitoring behavior change. It includes 8 of the Adjustment Scales (all except Cognitive Impairment), each shortened to just 12 items. The Behavioral Summary Profile provides scores for the 8 scales, plus a Total Score and 3 Composites: Externalization, Internalization, and Social Adjustment. Because the items on this short form are all in the present tense and all focused on conditions and behaviors that are responsive to relatively brief intervention, the Behavioral Summary is especially helpful in designing and evaluating individual treatment plans. It can be used on its own, or scored as part of the full test. By providing two administration formats, the PIC-2 gives you a great deal of flexibility. The standard, 275-item profile assesses the full range of developmental, cognitive, adjustment, and interpersonal issues, with subscales that supply useful clinical detail and an optional critical items list divided into 9 content categories. The 96-item Behavioral Summary offers brevity, strong correlation with the full scale, a focus on current behavior that is likely to respond to treatment, and broad summary measures useful in evaluating change.

PRE-SCHOOL BEHAVIOR CHECKLIST (PBCL)

DESCRIPTION:
This quick, 22-item checklist helps professionals screen 2- to 5-year-old children for behavioral and emotional difficulties. It is ideal for use in preschools, nursery schools, and group day-care centers. If a child appears to be troubled, school staff can complete the PBCL, check the accuracy of their impressions, and determine whether further evaluation or intervention is warranted. The checklist covers emotions (fears, worries, mood), conduct, temper, activity level, concentration, social relations, speech, language, habits, wetting, and soiling. Each item lists three or four degrees of a particular behavior. The examiner simply marks the degree that best describes the child in question. Items are scored for frequency and severity. By comparing Total Scores to cutoff points provided in the Manual, the examiner can quickly determine whether the child has an emotional or behavioral problem. And to give parents feedback, the PBCL includes a Developmental Activities Checklist. Using this, school personnel can recommend home activities designed to benefit the child. The PBCL provides a systematic, objective way to screen preschool children for emotional and behavioral problems. Quick, cost-effective, and designed for group settings, it encourages early identification of children at risk.

SEVEN CHALLENGES: CHALLENGING OURSELVES TO MAKE WISE DECISIONS ABOUT ALCOHOL AND DRUGS

DESCRIPTION:
The Seven Challenges Program is designed for adolescent and young adult substance abusing or substance dependent individuals, to motivate a decision and commitment to change. It helps young people look at themselves, understand what it takes to give up a drug abusing lifestyle - and prepare for and attain success when they commit to such change. It helps young people master developmental tasks—to define their own identity, to learn systematic logical thinking and to prepare for adults roles—as they think about and examine their lives, their drug use, and the potential impact of their drug use upon their future. Based on the latest research and evaluation literature, in particular findings about (1) the underlying and co-occurring psychological problems that typically accompany drug use and put youth at risk of such abuse; (2) the stages of change in overcoming drug problems; (3) patient/treatment matching; (4) preparing individuals to change through motivational enhancement; (5) resiliency; (6) counseling outcomes; and (7) relapse prevention. The Seven Challenges Program and materials were developed in work with a culturally diverse group of young people. The program uses an empowerment model, putting personal problems in the context of broader social and environmental issues. The program addresses the drug use behavior, the underlying causes (including psychological and co-occurring problems), and lifestyle issues. The program has been shown to be effective in the treatment of adolescent substance abuse, and effective in the treatment of co-occurring problems as well as in work with the high percentage of substance abusing adolescents with trauma issues.
